Softworld's Engineering Relocation and Talent Strategy for U.S. Army's OMFV Bid

08/22/2024

Background

Our client is involved in a highly competitive bid for the U.S. Army’s Optional Manned Fighting Vehicle (OMFV). This vehicle will replace the M-2 Bradley, which has been in service since 1981.

The Challenge

The OMFV project was put out to bid in October of 2019. Our client had fully designed and built a prototype, however it was located in Europe and could not be delivered in time for the final inspection. Due to strict conditions, only one company was able to produce and ship their prototype to the U.S. Army in time. Due to this, the bid was re-opened to attract some additional competition. Our client believed that they had as great opportunity to win the contract, and decided to re-enter the bid. This is an enormous growth opportunity for our client, and based on our past performance at similar clients, Pivotal Engineering was chosen to support them in the project and bid.

The Solution

In order to improve their chances of winning the bid, our client moved their operations away from Europe and moved to the same city as their largest competitor. By doing this, we were able to recruit some of the top talent in the industry and offer them an engaging role for a very exciting opportunity.

Softworld began by filling all of the mechanical, electrical, systems, and design roles, as our client was building from the ground floor. Once the design stage was complete, we began filling the embedded engineering and hardware roles.

The U.S. Army is expected to narrow the field down to three suppliers in 2023, before ultimately selecting one manufacturer by January 2027.
